After attending this workshop, participants will be able to describe a clear and organized approach to the treatment of Obsessive, Histrionic and Borderline personality disorders using Object Relations Theory which emphasizes the patient's primitive defensive structures that thwart most therapeutic efforts.
- Review the origins and principles of Object Relations Theory and its fundamental constructs
- Review distinct typical family constellations that produce Obsessive, Hystrionic and Borderline Personality Disorders
- Review the content and dynamic function of the internalized self and object structures and the translation of these structures into relational patterns and transference configurations.
Describe therapeutic strategies that have impact on each of the histrionic, obsessive and borderline personality disorders including management of the frame and analysis of the transference.
Educator's Objectives: For teachers attending this workshop, objectives in addition to the above are:
- Understand the family systems that lie behind the acting out behavior in the classroom.
- Understand how calmly holding to boundaries can give a problem child better behavior choices, and will give the child the option of imitating the teacher's boundaries.
